To praise and worship God are duties of every Christian. For many years my heart felt a great desire to worship God and manifest my feelings. I wanted to do something so my love for him would be evident. Nevertheless, I did not know how to do it. The religious tradition in a wish I had been raised did not provide what I was looking for. As an adult I joined a nondenominational church where I was able to learn how to manifest myself in worship and praising. I educated and matured spiritually I have Ronin knowledge that allows me to manifest freely and clearly how much I love the Lord. God knows our hearts and he knows perfectly the place he has in the life of each one of us. Nevertheless the Bible beseeches us to praise and worship Him openly. It also explains us how to do it. Let’s first differentiate between praising and worshiping. The first term refers to commend with words. Worshiping goes beyond as it refers to revere, honor, and pay tribute.
Now, let’s see what the Word tells us about how to praise God:
1) with musical instruments
“Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.” Psalm 150:3-5
2) dancing
“Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.” Psalm 150:3-5
3) with lifted hands
“Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.” Psalm 63:4
“And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven: And he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:” 1 Kings 8:22-23
4) singing
“I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.” Psalm 9:2
5) clapping our hands
“O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. For the Lord most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth. He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.” Psalms 47:1-3
6) with words
“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” Hebrews 13:15
7) standing
“And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.” 2 Chronicles 20:13
So, how do we worship God according to The Bible?
1) Bowing head, face to the ground
“And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.” 2 Chronicles 20:18
“Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1:20-21
“And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,” Genesis 17:3
“And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Matthew 26:39
“And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?” Joshua 5:14
“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,” Psalm 95:6-7
2) kneeling
“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” Psalm 95:6
“For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven. And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:” 2 Chronicles 6 :13-14
Praising and worshipping God is not as simple as it seems. The Word tells us it’s not with vane gestures or postures. It is required for us to observe an attitude of respect and surrendering that must be evident in our ways. To worship or praise we must first remember that our bodies are temples to the Holy Spirit. Therefore our lives must show it. “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) Our daily activities must praise Him. “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31) The Word also tells us that it is our hearts and spirit the ones that praise Him. “I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.” (Psalm 119:7) “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24) This means our body, mind and spirit have to glorify God jointly, honestly. “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” (Psalm 103:1)
“Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.” Psalm 150:6
