"Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:
“Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. 15 For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’"
(Matthew 13:9-15 NIV)
There are people who, although they claim to be Christians, they close the doors to the truth. They are stubborn, proud, they do not want to learn because they consider themselves very wise. Having eyes, they don't see, having ears, they don't listen because their attitude hinders their ability. They don't want to accept a truth that's not comfortable, convenient for them.
The Word of God is clear, all wisdom begins with fear of God. (Proverbs 9:10) When we do not want to accept the guidelines of conduct provided by The Bible, we invent reasons trying to excuse our accommodative interpretation of its message. We want to be Christians without carrying our cross.
It's to those who have little, even what they have will be taken away from them. We have already been warned not to be wise in our own opinion (Proverbs 3:7). Let us be humble and surrender our will to that of the Lord. How?
Study The Word (it is God's message to us, his manifest will), pray for discernment (God wants you to communicate with Him and ask Him for what you need, even though He already knows your need), fast (God wants you to depend on Him, Man shall not live on bread alone). Your relationship with God has to be your priority. Don't let other things divert you, don't get distracted by secondary matters, your time has to be primarily for the Lord. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21 NIV)
The commandment is to love God above all things. "Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37 NIV) God wants surrender, he is a full-time God, of every day. He does not want crumbs! "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth." (Revelation 3:15-16 NIV)
Open your eyes and ears, but above all open your mind and your heart.
